The University uses an “all-hazards” approach to Emergency Management to prevent, protect, mitigate, respond, and recover from an emergency situation. In managing emergencies, the following criteria guide the University in the assessment of response and recovery:
- Life safety
- Incident stabilization
- Protection of property and the environment
- Preservation of research and key assets
- Resumption of research and teaching
To accomplish this mission, the University uses the National Incident Management System (NIMS), specifically the Incident Command System (ICS), to develop and manage response and recovery objectives. The University’s response to an emergency involves members of the University’s Crisis Management Team (“CMT”) and other essential employees and is the organizational tool used to implement NIMS/ICS on our campus.
